About the Author
Dr. Gerald Keller is Emeritus Professor of Business at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he taught statistics, management science, and operations management from 1974 to 2011. He also taught at the University of Toronto, the University of Miami, McMaster University, the University of Windsor, and the Beijing Institute of Science and Technology. In addition to consulting with banks on credit scoring and credit card fraud, Dr. Keller has conducted market surveys for the Canadian government on energy conservation. His books include BSTAT, 2e, APPLIED STATISTICS WITH MICROSOFT EXCEL, ESSENTIALS OF BUSINESS STATISTICS (co-authored), AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS STATISTICS (co-authored), and STATISTICS LABORATORY MANUAL EXPERIMENTS USING MINITAB. Dr. Keller also has been published in OMEGA, IIE TRANSACTIONS, DECISION SCIENCES, INFOR, ECONOMICS LETTERS, and ARCHIVES OF SURGERY.

You know its bad when it confuses you on material you already know...

Honestly, this is the worst textbook I have used in my entire academic career. The examples in each chapter are extremely limited and do not cover the all of the material you will be questioned on. This problem is magnified to infuriating levels when there are no step-by-step examples or explained answers in the back of the book, so if you happened to be human and make a mistake, good luck finding out why. While the material is lacking, the layout is even worse. This is supposed to be a college textbook, not an imitation of People magazine. Each page is cluttered with blown up pictures and needless graphics, while important formulas are written in plain text and tucked away in the page corners. If the book doesn't give you a laugh, then I guarantee you the online portion will. I decided to register my book to see if there would be any resources to help me with the homework problems. I register, look up the assigned chapter, and what do I find? Digital note cards. No formulas. No practice problems. No explained answers. Just four, lousy note cards with mindless vocabulary that you will already know after reading through the chapter several times to find something useful. The sad part is I have already aced a college level statistics class, but need to retake it since the credits didn't transfer out of state. The textbook we used in that class was printed in the 90's, and stands leagues above this pathetic excuse for instructional material. If I had not taken stats prior, I guarantee you I would not have the slightest clue as to what is being discussed in this textbook; it is THAT poorly written. I am writing this review because of how infuriating it is to review for a test on material I ALREADY KNOW, so unless you have already taken statistics and feel ready to take the final, demand your professor to change textbooks. I feel sorry for the poor souls that actually have to use this bottom-shelf magazine for their first statistics class. God help you.

You'd be better off with no textbook...seriously.

This is a sad excuse for a college textbook. The format is terrible, with giant pictures shoehorned in every few pages, seemingly intended to make up for the book's lack of useful content. The explanations of key formulas and problem solving procedures are, in many cases, glossed over and poorly explained. However, the worst part is, without a doubt, the way much of the book is worded and written, particularly when it comes to the instructions for many of the practice problems.
Do yourself a favor, and find another book. Unless this book is ABSOLUTELY mandated by your professor, you would be better off simply not buying a textbook, as it may be more of a hindrance than a learning aid.
