This book is pretty stellar both for entertainment and educational purposes. It combines activities with partially-'finished' paintings by Frida which encourages you to complete as well as explore the alternatives. Short blurbs describe her life or tell a story about her paintings via children's book style. I would call this an intelligent interactive story book. It is also aesthetic, there is a great balance between stark black and white of the blank coloring pages to the bright and vibrant colors Frida is known for. At the end of the book you get the full-color pieces, so you can compare your works. We re-buy this one often for gifts. Age five and age thirty are both in love.

For Children, Disappointing

Sorry I have to disagree but I was rather disappointed with this Frida coloring book. Let me begin by saying I have been a fan for decades. I have a whole bookshelf full of books about Frida, three or four movies (the documentary A Ribbon Around a Bomb, the Spanish language fictionalized account and of course the wonderful Salma Hayek/Julie Taymor flick which I anticipated for so many years and I think at least one other documentary) , a couple of Frida calendars with some of her paintings on them and even the various tote bags, etc. that people have given me as gifts over the years. I was even lucky enough to have made "the pilgrimage" to her house in Coyoacan and visited Diego Rivera's museum down there during the Day of the Dead celebration no less. I guess that might sound like bragging and I'm sorry if it offends you. Just saying that there is not only nothing in there that I haven't seen before, it is also just a terrible "coloring book" (and I have a lot of coloring books too!). Let's see: there are 14 2''x3" thumbnails of some of her paintings on the last two pages. They are already all colored in and it just asks :which ones do you recognize?" There is a small page from one of her diaries (sounds better than it is) and on the opposite page there is an ugly ink blot on a mostly empty page where it asks you "what do you think of when you see this ugly ink blot?" A very primitive (early) half colored drawing of a sun dance also next to an empty page where you are invited to draw your own, I guess. A partial b&w photo of Frida laying in bed with her brushes and pallett where again you are presented with a completely empty page that invites you to "draw a picture for her". They tell us she painted in bed because she was "ill" .O.K.,. next we do have an entire page of "A Trip to New York" and finally there is crude outline of this one for you to color in.. (I'm working back to front for no reason). Another completely empty page opposed by a photograph.of a self-portrait where the face and head are colored in, but you can color in her dress and do what you want with the rest of the page (half of that is blank). I'm not going to describe every page, there are only (they say) 32 pages. This really is more for children, and to be fair that is specified in the description. As a gift for someone who likes Frida, I think it would go over very well. But if you are buying it for yourself I am afraid you might be disappointed, just a friendly warning.

I thought I will get a coloring book it is ...

I thought I will get a coloring book it is more an activities book, maybe designed for kids, I purchase this for an adult present, and now I'm not sure to give it. there are just a few images for coloring, mostly all are part printed and just a part for painting, and some pages completely blank.
I will put pictures ( if will see the pictures never bought the book)
The quality of the paper is god
