Affordable but not accurate

It's nice to have an affordable math book, and this one does give a good introduction to graph theory. Unfortunately, there are also mistakes (some of which REALLY should have been caught in proofreading) which could confuse someone attempting to learn graph theory from this book. (These are both in the text and in the answers provided for the problems, such as giving the wrong number for the length of a path)

There are much better Graph Theory Books

The errors in this text are unfortunate, and the presentation is not engaging. I did find that "A First look at Graph Theory" by Clark and Holton was useful and "Introduction to Graph Theory" by Chartrand and Zhang, was very readable.

Gil Meyer Really Did "Make it Happen"

For those who doubt an officer can live by the principles described in this book, Meyer did, and his "Make It Happen" philosophy ensured that all of us did as well. I served as a Platoon Leader, Company XO, and Training Officer in Meyer's 385th Military Police Battalion in Germany. I can tell you that I have never met another person with the exceptional people management skills, practical insight and moral bearing of this man. He lead by example -- an example that I still draw upon 20 years later. A must-have primer if you're in charge.

This book was required reading for all senior leadership in our Battalion years ago and is extremely useful to both new First Sergeants and Commanders. It was also recommended reading by the Sergeants Major Academy for all First Sergeant Course attendees. I gave this to my daughter when she was promoted and became a Battery (Company) Commander. I have also given this to every new commander/first sergeant I have met or known for over twenty years now and will continue to do so as long as it is available (no longer readily available at AAFES clothing sales stores).

It is a good textbook.

It has many practical and helpful examples in each section. At the end of sections, there are plenty of exercises problems for practicing. All of these make learning such a complex subject much easier and faster. It's a great book for people who need to take exams in ordinary differential equations. It's also useful for engineers who need to refresh basic ODE knowledge.

This textbook was very well written as the contents flows smoothly. Ordinary Differential Equations need lots of practice to master and this book has provided many useful examples to help understand intricate theorems. This book contains many questions and detailed solutions. This was very helpful for studying the subject. I highly recommend this textbook!

Most textbooks have a limited number of solutions for exercises; Dr. Deng's book, however, not only provides answers for all problems in an appendix, but also provides the detailed step-by-step ways that one may arrive at those solutions, which is of great value to the student. For the price, you cannot go wrong with this book, even if it is not required for a course you are taking or if you are simply looking for a reference in the future to refresh your knowledge when you need it.

I've always been impressed with the artwork with Warcraft, so books like these are always a treat. Although this one didn't have as much artwork as the first artbook the released "the Art of Warcraft", it still made an impact.

The book arrived a couple of weeks before I expected it, so that was great and I am very happy with the delivery process.

But I am not so happy with the book. It is not bad, but I think that there is too little concept art. I mean, in the race concept art, you find a lot of 3D images of the game and that's not concept, that's result, and I think they could have put more sketches or illustrations. The whole layup is a bit messy.

I bought this book beacause I am a big fan of wacraft and world of warcraft, and I expected as concept art book, something like the Starcraft 2 artbook. I imagine that this difference between layup quality is simply because they got better at doing them. That is the price of practice.

Anyway this book is a must have for all fans.

The book I got was in excellent condition, and when I looked through it. Wow! I was blown away. It's extraordinary. Such and incredible piece of art! There is so much to learn from the artists in it, and it'll be such a great inspiration. One of the best books I have ever bought!

About the Author
Don Tapping has worked for over twenty years to eliminate waste and improve bottom-line results in the telecommunications, medical, automotive, industrial, and aerospace industries. Tapping directed the lean implementation for Eaton Aerospace Division for over 5 years, with similar duties prior to that at Schlumberger Technologies, UNISTRUT Corporation, and Data Scan Services.

Tom Shuker has over thirty years’ experience in manufacturing and is currently President of Lean Concepts, LLC. Shuker recently participated in lean implementation within General Motors Corporation including two years at New United Motors Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI), a joint GM-Toyota Assembly Plant. He has also consulted for other manufacturers in the implementation of their lean manufacturing systems including Herman Miller, Autocam, Merilatt, Medtronics, Caterpillar, and Aeroquip Corporation–Division of Eaton.

Thorough review of VSM in the office

Ok, don't buy this book as a general "lean office" book - it's not that. It's ALL about mapping a value stream, running projects based on the value stream, and using VSM as the management tool for a lean office. I like that, but I felt that this book spends far too much time focused on the one tool, and doesn't emphasize that it's one tool that is part of an overall management system that will just require more.

Pros:
- Excellent, thorough, breakdown of VSM in the office
- Focused entirely on an office/service environment. It's not a retread with "manufacturing" replaced with "service" like some books.
- Visual, with excellent pictures and examples throughout

Cons:
- Only emphasizes one tool
- The wastes discussion was weak compared to other office books - I found several others to cover them much more thoroughly, with better examples.

What a welcome addition to the world of lean!

This book is such a welcome addition to my book shelf. I tried so hard last year to try to translate manufacturing value stream mapping to the transactional world and found it very difficult. This book simplifies the approach incredibly. There are some typos in the book as well as one figure that is missing some icons. The bad part about the book is that it does seem to spend a lot of time saying the same thing over and over and over again while skipping over some very important VSM concepts like dealing with multiple flows, etc. You need to have a good background in VSM and lean in order to absorb this book easily. I appreciate the fact though that the authors try to demonstrate the tools on three or four examples throughout the book, but why not put in a few other case studies all the way through???!!! I hate having just one complete case study like in the book Learning to See. Not all situations are the same so having several examples can be very helpful.

VSM for the Office

I found this to be a good book on translating the tools of manufacturing to an office environment. It communicates all of the basics that are required.

I've attended one of this consulting group's manufacturing classes. I found them to be dead on. I like the way they handled the accounting/cost/metric relationship to lean production. Basically, the current accounting standards will cause you to do things in opposition to what lean principles will have you do.

In some other office scenarios, I think this more traditional approach will not have all the pieces or tools required. I work in an industry where order entry is significantly more complex than the examples presented, a much higher degree of interaction with other players is required, and rework loops are significant part of the process (customer driven rework). ANITECH has an approach that tracks the information flow surrounding the work process, while applying the same lean techniques that are presented in this book.

Tracking the information flow provides an opportunity to sort out, automate, and lean out that information flow. There is tremendous leverage in this concept.

printing issues may turn you off

a good book with SERIOUS printing issues

this edition has photos that are stuck together and bound at the top of the pages... the picture captions are cut off mid-sentence.
the photographs are set incorrectly and haphazardly situated on the pages..
yet, I will keep the book as it is informative and I do not rely on photos of fungi alone.

This an amazing book. To begin with

This an amazing book. To begin with, it is about 1 and a half inches thick. It is a stay at home book. If you want a take on the fly book with glossy pictures and simple reading, this is NOT the book to buy. You can basically pick and chose the mushrooms you are interested in and find out everything good and bad about them. I have never seen a book on mushrooms with the depth of field that the author presents in his book.
Again, it is not a quick reference book for camping or trail walking. It is a serious look at mushrooms. The ones that you can safely eat, and the ones that will kill you quickly.
If you paired this with a quick reference book and stuck with 4-5 mushrooms you could safely identify, you would be well on your way to enjoying the hunt !

Unbelievably comprehensive.

An amazing book - I can't fathom the breadth and depth of the author's knowledge. Be warned, however, that this kind of comprehensiveness comes at a price. The fact that it contains so many different mushrooms from all over the US makes it more difficult for a beginner to identify the common ones in my area. For many beginners, a more local guide to just the more common shrooms might make more sense (AND be more portable - this thing is huge). For the serious mushroom hunter though, this is the bible.
