Karen Bonderud who was born and raised in Yellow Springs Ohio grew up practicing Wicca. The ancient tradition was practiced by her predecessors. Karen Felt that practicing Wicca was only part of her duty and diligence here on earth. She wanted to learn more, teach, and education the people of her religion. Karen has been teaching for a number of years through her convent. Karen noticed over the years that many people had a lot of questions relating to Wicca, she found that writing books was the perfect way to answer these common questions and to spread the word about a Wicca. This book is a decent addition to any Wiccan's library, especially if you're a beginner like myself. It helps with so many tips and suggestions. The book takes you from the absolute beginning of having absolutely nothing for your altar to preparing your altar for rituals to helping you with the Gods & Goddesses to break down of each herb for spells and finally onto the spells.

Karen Bonderud is very detailed and helps you step by step with every spell, herb, explanation, etc. This is a great starter book!

I have to give this book FIVE stars because this book made me believe in the power of Wiccan Spells. I am afraid to give it anything less. Seriously, I kinda got this to mess around with my kids for Halloween. This book is no joke. It is very serious. I actually got a little nervous like I could have let something loose just by reading it. BUT...nerves or not...it is such a FASCINATING look inside something that I never considered before that I could not put it down. Reading this book is kinda like playing with a Ouiga board. It may start as a joke, but it rarely ends as one!!! So good and interesting!!!

Abraxas: Beyond Good and Evil

Excellent book for open minded people. This book is one of a series written by the Pythagorean Illuminati. They also have a great website armageddonconspiracy.co.uk. The book begins by comparing and contrasting the western religions of faith with the eastern religions of self knowledge. The authors show the complete disconnection between faith and reason and how most people get their understanding of the world through emotionally satisfying narratives as opposed to understanding the world through reason.

As with all the books by the true Illuminati they touch on many different subjects including philosophy, mathematics, science, religion and many other very interesting topics. I personally enjoyed the information on Gnosticism, the origins of evil, and all the information on the dialectical logic of the philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. Anybody who has read any Hegel knows that he is very difficult to read but these authors make understanding his ideas much easier.

As usual the authors take complicated and detailed concepts and make them understandable to the average person and do it in a humorous way. I had very little knowledge of the subjects that the true Illuminati write about when I stumbled on their website over a year ago and they have completely revolutionized my understanding of the world and the way I think about things. When I began reading their ideas it felt like I had finally found what I had been looking for my entire life. Everybody needs to give these books a chance.

I really enjoyed this book. The idea of creating a world where no one is given an unearned advantage due to hereditary or financial privilege is extremely appealing. A world of equal opportunity, not one of privilege and chosen people, could revolutionize our world. Many individuals have much to contribute but are shut out due to race, ethnicity, gender, etc. The concepts presented here will not be accepted by most people due to reasons explained in the book, but it only takes the right people to get these concepts out. I look forward to learning more about these concepts and passing what I have learned to those who have ears to hear.

About the Author
Liu Zhenyun, author of six bestselling novels--I Did Not Kill My Husband sold 1.2 million copies--and born in 1958, is a native of Henan Province in northern China. A decent book, but not my cup of tea....

For some reason, this book didn't quite click for me. It may have been because none of the characters were particularly sympathetic, or because the plot twists felt like a wild goose chase to nowhere,but this turned out to be one of those "grind-it-out" books that I had to force myself to finish.

Read outside your norm

and you'll find hidden gems. I've been noticing a wave of translated works coming in from other countries and couldn't be happier. The translation worked well first of all. Second the story was interesting and complex enough to keep me turning the pages. The characters seemed quirky to me which made the situations they found themselves in believable. Glad this book is available in the US!

I bought this book as a beginning-to-intermediate Irish and bluegrass mandolinist, and it has been an excellent value.

The Amazon description does not exaggerate the variety of styles included in this book. Bluegrass and folk songs are strongly represented, but I have gotten the most enjoyment from the Gypsy and Italian songs (Chitarra Romana, Funiculi-Funicula, Toselli's Serenade, etc.), which tend to be absent from more common "mandolin method" books.

Arrangements vary in difficulty, from simple single note melodies (Amazing Grace), to greatly complex pieces (Chitarra Romana, Vivaldi's Concerto in C Major). Also included are interesting variations of more common tunes (a double-stopped and chorded version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, with the original French lyrics, or All Through the Night with pedal notes).

Suggested fingerings are included in the more tricky sections (especially in tunes that venture beyond the first position). In addition to guitar chords written over the staff, explicit chords and double-stops are included in many of the pieces.

Also included are brief backgrounds on most of the songs, as well as suggestions on style.

I highly recommend this book for any beginner who wants to move past fiddle tunes or any intermediate player who wants some exposure to some new styles.

Exceptional Song Book

This book is well worth the $17.95 amazon price but it is unfortunately overlooked in the vast selection of mandolin literature available these days. The song selection is impressive, it covers a wide range of music from all corners of the world. Each piece is accompanied by a short historical overview which helps place the song in its historical context. This is not a method book and therefore it will not cover the basics--holding the pick, finger placement, counting, time signatures etc. However it is an excellent supplement to any of the well written "how to methods" now available. What this book will really help the mandolinist accomplish is developing a sense of relative pitch on the instrument by playing "melodies" all over the fingerboard.

variety and brief tips

I love this book. I am teaching myself to play. The variety of styles and levels of difficulty in this book is unlike any other book i have found. I love it! As a beginner, I feel like there is enough that I can already do, but also plenty of challenge. There are helpful tips on the tricky bits and I love, particularly, the Jewish and Gypsy music which I haven't seen much of in other books. So, for motivation to keep learning, but also confidence that I have learned something, for songs all over the mandolin's range, and for the variety - I highly suggest this book.
There are also 4 or 5 Christmas songs and 2 lullabies which saves me from buying separate music for those "needs" - the only times I plan on playing for others.
